In Frecheirinha, Ceará, bees are helping to build a cycle that connects income generation, biodiversity and local development. This is the purpose of Tekoá Project, a Cerbras initiative aimed at developing community and socio-environmental beekeeping.
A project that starts in the territory
Carried out in communities Vila Pavão and Penanduba, Tekoá supports local families in keeping bees and producing honey and propolis. The initiative has installed hives, Casa do Mel in operation and technical monitoring by Sebrae and Cerbras.
The choice of Frecheirinha is linked to the objective of strengthening the communities surrounding Cerbras' operations, valuing knowledge, natural resources and opportunities for development in the territory itself.
The project uses Africanized bees (Apis mellifera), who find the necessary resources to maintain their colonies in local vegetation. In July 2026, Tekoá held its first honey harvest, and now it is also moving towards the production of propolis.
When visiting different plant species in search of food, they carry out pollination, contributing to the reproduction of plants and the maintenance of ecosystems.
This is why the project also connects to Cerbras seedling nursery, with production and planting of species such as bamboorral, juazeiro and angico-preto, which favor flowering and strengthen the conditions for beekeeping activities.
The Tekoá Project shows that a hive represents much more than honey production. It may be part of a cycle that involves people, nature and new opportunities.
The next steps include strengthening honey and propolis production, training families, monitoring hives and continuing to plant bee-friendly species.
